Wikimedia Statistics can be difficult to interpret. What is your impression, how many steady contributors do you have?

Where do your contributors live (regions/country)?

How common is it that your contributors meet in real life?

Do you have special contacts with other Wikipedias (maybe in related languages)?

Do you translate a lot from other Wikipedias? Which ones?

Is there a Wikimedia chapter in your country? How does your language relate to it?

Your Wikipedia and the linguistic community edit

Is there a language institution for your language, like an Academy, or a club of people interested in your language? Do you have contact with them?

Yes, Institut za hrvatski jezik i jezikoslovlje, we ask them for guidance when we have language duality problems. SpeedyGonsales 11:42, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who (else) supports you?
What does the public outreach for your edition look like? Do you have fliers, give lectures, training etc.?

Till now three lectures are held, one to students of Croatian studies, two to Zagreb University. All main TV stations, daily newspapers & weekly magazines had Wikipedia as either cover story or at least interesting new topic. SpeedyGonsales 11:42, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What other encyclopedias exist in your language?

Opća enciklopedija JLZ and Hrvatska enciklopedija (LZMK) are general encyclopedias in Croatian language, other special encyclopedias also exist (Technical, Medical etc). SpeedyGonsales 11:42, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Does your edition concentrate on certain topics, like your region and language, e.g. Latin Wikipedia on Roman history and Christianity?

No, hr Wikipedia is general encyclopedia which tries to be referent source on Internet for Croatian culture, but as some users hang more on en wiki, some articles on en wiki are better written :-) SpeedyGonsales 11:42, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Did your edition enjoy text donations, for example from older encyclopedias?

Language edit

Is there a generally accepted norm about your language (spelling, dictionary, pronunciation)?

How do you deal with different spellings, dialects etc. (like B.E. lift and A.E. elevator)?

We have no problem with spelling, but we have two (2) words for geography (zemljopis and geografija), and some users spent lot of time arguing why is one variant better then other. If Croatian standard recognizes only one form, administrators enforce it, but when standard allows duality we are inclined to allow users to write how they choose. In Croatia we have 3 principal dialects: čakavski (ča?), kajkavski (kaj?) and štokavski (što?). Čakavski speak the people from Istria and Dalmatia; kajkavski speak the people in Zagorje and Slavonija; štokavski speak the people in Lika and southern Dalmatia but also in Međimurje and Slavonija. We have a lot of sinonims (Ex. ljestve, škale, skalinada, stube = stairs or pecivo, panin, žemlja, sendvič = sandwich).
