You're not helping in making Wikipedia less US-centric. Why not model this after the Charter of the United Nations instead?

This currently reads like a parody. If you want this to be taken seriously, let alone adopted, it probably should not be modeled on the US constitution, but on some consensus arrived at by a large number of experienced wikipedians. Personally, I'm not even sure there is a need for this, but I'm willing to be proved wrong. My own tuppenceworth - I believe that anonymous IP addresses should not have editing rights, simply because it seems to me most petty vandalism is from casual people passing through who are surprised to find they can edit, then commit some vandalism out of not knowing any better. People who "get it", and decide to write somethign serious are usually willing to sign up. GRAHAMUK 05:48, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Funny, but for User page or meta (at best) rather than a legitimate article. --Daniel C. Boyer 16:56, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

I think we should move this to m:Constitution of Wikipedia. Other thoughts? -- BCorr ¤ Брайен

I moved it to m:Meta-Wikimedia:Constitution of Wikimedia. Angela 22:40, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

From en:VfD

  • Wikipedia:Constitution of Wikipedia - Nonsense - no relation to reality - American bias - Somebody's idea of a bad joke. mydogategodshat 06:50, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • not an article but maybe a suitable topic for discussion, move to amore appropriate place maybe. Personally I prefer anarchy, it's more flexible. ping 08:06, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • Delete. This is appalling. Bmills 09:27, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • Suggest moving to Wikipedia:Yet more bad jokes and other deleted nonsense. Appallingly Americocentric, and just plain unnecessary. Arwel 12:13, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • Delete. Or save for 1 April, then delete. -- Viajero 12:23, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • Agree with all the above. Delete -- Tarquin 13:16, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • Keep and turn it into a game of Wiki Nomic. Or delete. Onebyone 15:54, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • I believe the contributor is serious...so what about sending it to m:Constitution of Wikipedia? -- BCorr ¤ Брайен 18:44, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
      • Maybe making it a personal user subpage would be better? Maximus Rex 18:47, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
      • I've copied it to Meta which seems a more appropriate place for it. Angela. 22:42, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • Delete. I didn't realize that this was already on meta. Alexandros
    • DELETE. This Constitution is a mockery. Wikipedia:Copyrights says everything we need to know already. Kingturtle 09:16, 6 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • Delete: what an absolutely silly page. - Mark Ryan 12:23, 6 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • Delete. Tempshill 19:06, 6 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • Keep copy on Meta if necessary, but delete this one and do not leave redirect in place so as to avoid confusion with any kind of official or officious document.—Eloquence

Wikipedia:Constitution of Wikipedia

Is this a joke, or is it in any way vaguely official?

Don't mean to offend anyone, but I can't help wondering. Thanks. -- Pakaran 23:04, 4 Dec 2003 (UTC)

  • This is not a joke. It will be official. Alexandros
    • Ok thanks. -- Pakaran 01:35, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
      • Well, Alexandros saying it is official doesn't actually make it so but no-one has opposed it so far. Angela. 01:45, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • I think it's quite hideous and terribly, offensively US-Centric. Just my $0.02, but there's some opposition FWIW. Not saying that a constitution per se is a bad thing though - just this particular one. --Rlandmann 01:53, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • Yet you say $0.02. ;-) Alexandros
      • Which happens to be the local currency where I'm writing.... Or did you think that only the US uses dollars as currency units? :) --Rlandmann 02:16, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Rlandmann, ignore it, this constitution has to be a bad joke. mydogategodshat 06:37, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Alexandros, please explain why it is, or should be, official. I doubt it seriously. RickK 07:27, 6 Dec 2003 (UTC)
