Mailing list request for comment edit

Following up on discussions from Wikimedia Conference 2015, there is interest among at least user groups and possibly also thematic organizations and chapters in supporting each other through sharing information, ideas, requests for advice, peer reviews, and other communications on a mailing list. Option 1: expand the existing Chapters mailing list, which currently is open to chapter board members, to include board members and officers of chapters, thematic organizations, and user groups, but no WMF staff. Keep the list private.

Option 2: lock the existing Chapters mailing list, which currently is open to chapter board members, and replace it with a new public list that is open to everyone and focuses its topics on subjects of interest to affiliates as stated above.

And I am confused too. I get no information about inclusion of usergroups into chapters' list but get notification about created usergroups' mailinglist. So? Can usergroups take part in chapters' list? How? --KuboF (talk) 15:35, 17 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
The chapters-l list is privately run and not something that AffCom can change. We did talk to their moderators about a merged list, but ultimately given the activity level of that list, interest level of its moderators, and things like it being on private servers, it was decided that a new list on WMF servers would be best. The Affiliates mailing list was created as a new list where all affiliates are welcome and the list is on WMF operated servers so the affiliates can manage it with WMF technical support (if needed). I hope that helps clarify a few things. There is more information and more history on the affiliates mailing list page. How does this relate to Wikimedia movement affiliates? edit

A strategy preview document mentions "affiliates" and "partners" a lot, so I searched for "affiliates" and found this. Is this just a proposal from 2012 (if so, add {{Historical}} or some other flag), or is it happening? Please someone add a hatnote explaining its relation to Wikimedia movement affiliates.
