Talk:Non-development tasks for developers

I've moved these fulfilled requests here, if only to prevent them being requested again.

Discussion edit

I've just noticed that Wikipedia:Copies of Wikipedia content (low degree of compliance) is now uneditable because it contains blocked spamlinks. One way round this (which avoids re-advertising the spammer) is to tinyurlize the links. (Of course, it's also a workaround for spammers...)

Finnish namespaces edit

As proposed by Angela on my user page at the Finnish Wiktionary, I'd ask for changing the namespaces as follows:

  • Talk: -> Keskustelu:
  • Make Wikisanakirja: a real namespace in fi-wiktionary
  • Wiktionary_Talk: -> Keskustelu_Wikisanakirjasta:
  • Wiktionary_Appendix: -> Liite:
  • Talk:Wiktionary_Appendix: -> Keskustelu_liitteestä:
  • User: -> Käyttäjä: (already is?)
  • User Talk: -> Keskustelu_käyttäjästä: (already is?)
  • Special: -> Toiminnot: (already is?)
  • Template: may remain as template, as we (at Fi-Wikipedia) haven't decided what's a proper translation :)

I guess the Special:-pages (the names of the actual pages, not the text on the Specialpages-page as it can be translated by sysops) can't be translated yet? I just thought that otherwise e.g. German and French Wikipedias would have them translated? If it is possible, however, then the following should be changed for both Finnish Wiktionary _and_ Finnish Wikipedia:

(cleaned away these translations, like: * Toiminnot:Specialpages -> Toiminnot:Erikoissivut)

For foreigners to get around a little, it is useful that urls are not fully translated. Then one can see in the status bar of the browser what each link of the interface does.--Patrick 14:24, 28 Aug 2004 (UTC)

  • Is there something else that should be translated??

There were already some pages with Wiktionary: etc. prefix, but I moved those pages and deleted the remaining Wiktionary: -redirects just now, as can be seen on the allpages-page. -- TJ 11:05, 28 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Would someone be so kind and try to do something about this? Or is no-one following this page? -- TJ 11:30, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)
This is being dealt with by Tim Starling and should go live within a week, I believe. -- Jeronim 13:11, 28 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Yes. After some discussion with Tim, and then with the others, we're now voting for fi-wiktionary's name, so this is stalled for another week I guess. -- TJ 20:42, 1 Sep 2004 (UTC)
...and the result was to change fi-wiktionary's name to Wikisanakirja (Wikidictionary). -- TJ 16:25, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Other edit

  • Please add ebook2u dot com [1] and ultimasurf dot net [2] [3] to the spam regex.
    • Done Jeronim 17:40, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)
  • From en:Wikipedia talk:Spam: Please add paperlessarchives dot com to the spam regex.

Spam Regex edit

If I'm not mistaken, this is the place to request additions to the spam filter. The domain searchmiracle.com is associated with another one of those spyware programs that automatically add links around certain keywords in articles which an infected user edits: see [4] and [5] for examples. The domain targetwords.com is also involved in the same nefarious scheme (see [6]) but I haven't seen any from that domain in some months, so it may already be on the filter. -- Hadal 22:51, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Another request: the domain shop263.com is associated with massive link spamming via at least two IPs so far: see diffs [7] and [8] for an example from each IP. (By "massive" I mean the same URL is added dozens of times at the end of an article.) The articles targetted appear to be random, and the speed would indicate some sort of bot. However, the users both stopped after a warning was left on their talk page. If it's happened to en: it's likely on other languages too (the offending links were added to en: during "off hours"). -- Hadal 07:15, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Move this page to "Tasks that require server access"? edit

I think pages like this which many people visit and link from many projects can't be moved without discussion and concent from the community. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 08:41, 8 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

[The above comment was made after I moved this page to "Non-development tasks that require server access" and Aphaia undid the move. Brianjd | Why restrict HTML? | 08:51, 2005 May 8 (UTC)]

The title "Non-development tasks for developers" sounds like nonsense to me. You need to know that the term "developer" covers both those who are actually developing software and those who have server access to understand it; I knew this and I still didn't understand until I read the actual page. You should be able to infer the purpose of a page from its title. Brianjd | Why restrict HTML? | 08:51, 2005 May 8 (UTC) [edited 08:52, 2005 May 8 (UTC)]
I don't think so. Developer is here a status on project and this word doesn't belong only to meta but to all project. Even on local project information is available, and this page is already linked from local projects. Moving could causes unforeseeable troubles. If page title should be clear in your way, we can't say "request for sysopships" or "administrators" either. Honestly saying your statement seems to me very awkward and inclease inefficiency. Page title should be short enough to type in a few stroke, in my opinion. Redundancy is not welcome.
