  • Reasons: Frugalreef is a wiki with the editorial purpose of producing care sheets for marine reef inhabitants. The purpose is to focus articles on the care and maintenance of popular marine aquarium creatures and regularly publish paper care sheets under the FDL for distribution to pet stores who can then provide this information to their customers. Many pet stores do not have any information at all available to customers on how to care for their purchases. As most of these creatures are harvested from live reefs to the detriment of those reefs, improving their survival rates will protect the many over harvested reefs of the world. We are focusing our initial efforts on producing high quality care articles for the most popular creatures with low survivability or unusual requirements. With our care sheets under the FDL, a pet store can photocopy them and send each customer home with this important information at no cost.
No links on any wikimedia wiki? I think we need to see some evidence as to why this is needed. Soxred93 23:03, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Wikimedia projects in general frown upon linking to other wikis unless they are part of the interwiki map, which is why we are seeking to be added to the map. 12.214.103.241 02:01, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
No, that's just not true. If a link is useful, it should be added. If it's added very often we can consider adding it to our interwiki map. But no, "is on interwiki map" is rarely a criterion for the usefulness of an external link. Giggy 03:50, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Looks fine, I'd say "http://blog.wikimedia.org/$1" though. Cbrown1023 talk 19:35, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
How many posts have there been on this blog, and how often is it linked on the projects? I've personally not seen it much. Majorly talk 21:23, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Suggesting wmfblog: or even blog: instead or together. The proposed one is kinda longish.

I share Majorly's concern about whether the Blog is linked to often enough to qualify for the interwiki map. It seems to have quite few posts - can we have an indication of how many pages on WMF wikis link to it? WJBscribe (talk) 09:34, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Please add: artists

The following discussion is closed.

http://artists.wikidot.com is a noncommercial free wiki for information about art and art movements as well as for the promotion of new and/or unknown artists. English language. No problems so far with user history. Hard to say what counts as sufficient editors - each new artists is a different editor but each may only visit site to add their own details (so they cant be described as regular). Other editors appear to be regular. 90.231.2.252 18:26, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Oh, and can WikiHow be removed? It's an awful site with nothing but gossip being added to as far as I can see. 90.231.2.252 18:26, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Not likely, but you'll want to make a separate section for that request. Kylu 19:07, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
Could you use the template, given above? (I guess it's a bit late now... probably just archive this as not done?) ++Lar: t/c 06:32, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Proposed removals

OurPeachtreeCorners

The following discussion is closed.

The website attempts to install Spyware and has been associated with spam on the English Wikipedia. See here Icewedge 02:00, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

I hope there are no other links like that, there are tools that allow to check weblinks in a page, it may be worthwhile to do that and review manually the suspect ones. I see that this one has been added there on 17 Nov. 2005 by an IP. The same day, User:Rbrightwell created the (now deleted and recreated) page w:Peachtree Corners (admin link) with a soft redirect using the interwiki link prefix that links to the dangerous site. It was visibly an elaborated vandalism, that lasted (almost) 3 years. Cenarium (talk) 02:29, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Removed. --A. B. (talk) 02:59, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

d

The following discussion is closed.

It breaks all existing pages starting with "d:" and links to those pages. English Wiktionary already has the prefix "Wiktionary:" (which match prefixes "Wikipedia:", "Wikiquote:", etc, for other English language projects), so an extra prefix is not needed. (Also notice the instruction at the top of the Interwiki Map: "Wikimedia Foundation projects shouldn't be added here, since they're already in the database." /81.231.250.247 16:19, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

This wasn't already in the database obviously. Can you give example of pages that actually break? Cbrown1023 talk 20:55, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Broken pages are for example the pages with these talk pages: Wikipedia:pl:Dyskusja:D:Ream and Wiktionary:sv:Diskussion:d:o. And a link prefix for English Wiktionary already exist: "Wiktionary:". The extra prefix has limited use outside of the English language projects. And no other projects have short prefixes specifically for the Enlgish versions, they use the full project names "Wikipedia:", "Wikibooks:", "Wikiversity:"... /81.231.250.247 21:44, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
No... actually, we've had short prefixes for almost every other project for a while now. See w:, q:, s:, v:, b:, m:, etc. You need to ask the developers to retrieve those pages, unfortunately. Cbrown1023 talk 15:27, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
Those short prefixes does not link specifically to English language projects. Wiktionary already has the short prefix "wikt:", which works as expected by not linking to English Wiktionary from other language projects. If you really want this new prefix, it should be a language neutral prefix like those you mention. To get that you will have to make a request in bugzilla (but the developers will most likely mark such requests as INVALID or WONTFIX, for good reasons). /81.231.250.247 16:42, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

d: works not similar to wikt:. For example: if I write [[wikt:User:Ahonc]] in uk.wikipedia, it will be link to [5], and if I write [[d:User:Ahonc]], this link will be to [6].--Ahonc 23:58, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Scores to imslp.org

No big deal, but the target of scores: should really by http://imslp.org/wiki/, without the currently specified www. -- Michael Bednarek 08:08, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

{{Edit Protected}}
This has now become urgent as it seems that the target which includes wwww. prevents URL encoded pages (like those with diacritics) to be redirected properly. -- Michael Bednarek 08:54, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Done - but the Interwiki map isn't updated since long time ago and it may take a while to process. Best regards, df|  14:18, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

It should be multilingual and not hardcoded to point to wikt:en:. Thus when I put d:foo on Czech Wikipedia, it should point to wikt:cs:foo and not to wikt:en:foo. Etc... It should behave like an alias for wikt.
Danny B. 12:17, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Why the hell it was added in the first place? Thepage itself say clearly: Wikimedia Foundation projects shouldn't be added here, since they're already in the database. This well-intended addition had lead to English-centric interwiki that doesn't work like other WMF-specific interwikis do. I suggest to remove it and file a Bugzilla report for a proper IW instead. Additionally, this had already lead to undesired consequences, c.f. en:D-tour 1997 Live at Southampton. MaxSem(Han shot first!) 12:27, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Troubleshooting

URL encoding

The following discussion is closed.

Some entries (I note urbandict:, google:, and googlegroups:, but there are probably many more) need the argument $1 to be URL-encoded before being used, as otherwise they convert spaces to underscores instead of to plus signs or %22s. Can this be done?—msh210 22:42, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

That seems a developer question. You maybe should search bugzilla and see if this has been requested or not, and if not, maybe open a new bug. However not only MW wikis use this I think. Not sure what that means to them. I don't think we can, from any changing of the table, change the urlencoding behaviour of wikis that use this table. But I could be wrong. ++Lar: t/c 22:34, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
