	This proposal has been rejected. This decision was taken by the language committee in accordance with the Language proposal policy based on the discussion on this page. The closing committee member provided the following comment: Since this request was opened in late January 2007, no native editors have come forth (and only one non-native editor) and no test project was developed. The primary significant argument in favour actually describes a situation we're trying to avoid: empty wikis with no community which become open targets for vandalism, libel, and spam, and must be monitored (with difficulty) by the "Small Wiki Monitoring Team". Note that this is not at all a rejection of the language itself. Feel free to work on the Wikimedia Incubator, attract a larger community, and make a new request in the future. Support even if a native speaker is not found, I'm sure we can translate the word Wikipedia and a brief paragraph inviting any native speaker to go ahead and edit and direct them to where they can ask questions. It would probably make the most sense to have the interface in Spanish since thats the existing language they are most likely to have knowledge of. We should proceed even without a native speaker. I suggest we have a lobbying effort trying to contact Guatemalan and Mexican Native American affairs bureaus of Maya institutions and organizations and see if we cant attract a native speaker just one is all we need, then maybe 2 or 3, I think we should have a goal for maybe finding 10 native speakers and then rely on them to get word of mouth out or spend some money on some sort of publicity.

Oppose until native speakers get involved. We have already way too many dead wikis that were created without any participation of those, who are supposed to do the actual work of creating an encyclopaedia in their native language. Nothing against Quiché in general, of course. However, currently no native speakers seem to be supporting the idea of a Wikipedia in that language und therefore it is not worthwhile creating one at the present moment. --ARBE0 18:46, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
