Teacher's Guide

Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom,Anambra State. edit

Reading Wikipedia in the classroom has the ability to add value to teachers’ personal and professional development, as well as improve digital, media, and information literacy (MIL) skills. This is the 21st century and the information society where traditional methodologies are giving ways for sophisticated learning with ICTs. This program and learning are inclusive and expansive for all teachers. Today’s teachers also receive regular training and integrate ICTs into classroom teaching. So this program is value-added and will hone their skills to become better in incorporating MIL using the indigenous and oral history to draw students to tell their own stories which may probably be lacking in the global platform of Wikipedia.

Therefore, this program has enriching importance for the inclusive participation of teachers in Anambra State Nigeria as custodians of the classroom who nurture and groom students for sustainable development. It has a holistic tendency of building the IT base of my country and the National information policy development. As the world builds smart cities and information society, this program becomes of great value in building human resources to fill the gap in digitalizing cultural heritage and modern educational goals.

The program will train selected teachers in Anambra State, Nigeria on structured modules that will acquaint them with reading Wikipedia in the classroom. There will be partners for ensuring successful implementation. These partners will come from the public and the private sectors. The overall impact will be to train ready and willing teachers who will integrate the same to their students in Anambra State for equitable quality education.
