Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Wolof Wikiquote 2

Tracked in Phabricator:
Task T334482

This is a proposal for closing and/or deleting a wiki hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation. It is subject to the current closing projects policy.

The proposal for closing q:wo: is accepted and the proposed actions should be taken.

  • A Language Committee member provided the following comment:
The proposal can be accepted as the wiki is inactive and has an absence of content since the wiki's creation. Most of the less than 20 main space pages were created by a non-native speaker (babel wo-1) in 2007. --MF-W 16:44, 1 April 2023 (UTC) Accepted on: 14:57, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Type: 1 (routine proposal)
  • Proposed outcome: closure
  • Proposed action regarding the content: should be transferred to Wikimedia Incubator
  • Notice on the project: [1]
  • Informed Group(s): (Which chapters, wiki projects, and other community groups have been informed, if any.)

Previous proposal: Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Wolof Wikiquote

9 pages in mainspace (excluding Main Page), however 2 of them are untranslated/in the wrong language. Each has 1 quote per page, so the entire wiki has 7 quotes. Requesting closure under (almost) no useful content. This is about the same state as the wiki was in 15 years ago when the first closure proposal was requested. Close. Content-free, community-free wikis such as this are an active drain on the Wikimedia movement's resources, particularly those involved in the patrolling of small wikis. With only 7 quotes and no improvement in 15 (!) years, we should move the Wolof Wikiquote project back to Incubator. This, that and the other (talk) 07:56, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Support there’s 12 crappy articles and I do not anticipate improvement any time soon or ever. Dronebogus (talk) 13:05, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. This is, unfortunately, a completely dead project and seems to have been that way since creation. There is no real content and there is no editing community. Recent Changes shows 5 edits/log events over the last month, 4 automated messages and a steward renaming someone. I appreciate that Rich Farmbrough made about 60 edits in November and December last year, but these kinds of eleventh hour attempts to save a project rarely solve the fundamental issue of there being no editing community in the first place - as expected a few months later the place is completely dead again. Move it to the incubator, where the current content can be preserved and it can be revived in the future. 192.76.8.84 22:27, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Sadly a case of complete lack of meaningful content since creation, and the situation isn't likely to change anytime soon. I'm uncertain that most African Internet users are aware that there are Wikipedias in their own mother tongue, let alone other Wiki projects. --178.237.222.207 18:24, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong support Strong support As unfortunate as it is, I dont think enough wolof speakers use many wikimedia projects, especially WikiQuote, a lesser known and less popular wiki. Smug uwu (talk) 03:31, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
