The result of the following proposal for closing a WMF project is to KEEP the project. Please, do not modify this page.

The following discussion is closed: result is keep, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 13:05, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No activity, only interwiki bots. According to co:wikt:Special:Newpages, there no "new pages", just a list of sketch pages without any definition, etymology etc. since july(?)--Nick1915 - all you want 21:19, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose edit

  1. Oppose This wiki has hundreds of legitimate entries. See e.g. co:wikt:Category:Corsu. I suspect that a software bug is the reason why they don't show up in co:wikt:Special:Allpages. And there has been substantial editing activity as recent as 29. December, see [1]. To me this proposal is completely off the mark. --Johannes Rohr 07:09, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
fixed your links (co: wikt no wiki). co:wikt:Category:Corsu doesn't show any "legitimate entry", only tautological pages without any further information/definition (wiki full of words, but lacking of contents)--Nick1915 - all you want 20:47, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is a Wiktionary, not a Wikipedia edition. Of course, the Corsican Wiktionary is still sketchy, however, the existing pages I checked all have legitimate content. The all have translations, for starters, which in the case of a minority language such as Corsican is essential. Additionally, they provide the part of speech, the pronunciation and sometimes alternative variants of the same word. I believe this is a fair start for a Wiktionary in a minority language with probably no more than 100,000 speakers. Closing a Wiki with such an amount of legitimate content in a legitimate natuaral language would be an absolute novelty. --Johannes Rohr 10:27, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've no objection about the language, I know that this's a wiktionary and also I know what is the difference between wp and wikt. Imho co: contents (without any definition) could be merged to another lang. wiktionary.--Nick1915 - all you want 12:43, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please clearfy that, I don`t sure to understand your argument. Are you saying that minor languages have to merge their translations to the important dictionary language ones. And who determine this importance? perhaps you?. I would like to know which languages have rights to develop their translations and which have to do themselves in the other culturally more elevated projects. Regards.--Jatrobat 05:09, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, I didn't say that: I'm only explaining that co.wikt contents won't be deleted if project will be closed. I'm a 'crat of one of this "minor" languages wikis, and I have no intention of merging any wikis randomly... see my sentence above:"I've no objection about the language"--Nick1915 - all you want 03:00, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose More than a thousand pages. --Jatrobat 05:09, 2 February 2008 (UTC) (Excuse me, I am not registered in the co: wiktionary.--Jatrobat 05:12, 2 February 2008 (UTC))[reply]
  2. Oppose Do you want to close a project which has more than 1100 entries? I can't believe it! The Corsican language is an important language which is spoken in all Corsica Island (France) and in a part of Sardinia Island (Italy). The Corsican language and the Italian language are both derivated from old Toscan dialects. We can say that the Italian language and the Corsican language are like a brother and a sister. Please don't close this wiktionary project. I am a bureaucrat and an administrator in the Sicilian wikipedia and I am a bureaucrat and an administrator in the Sicilian wiktionary, and I propose to develop now the Corsican wiktionary to avoid an abusive closing. I am not a Corsican man but I know Corsican language enough to can administrate the Corsican wiktionary. Best regards.--Sarvaturi 01:46, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
First, closure doesn' mean deletion. Second: nobody says anything about "language issue". Third: you're still creating a lot of entries without any standard definition, just translation... babelwiktionary?--Nick1915 - all you want 14:11, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    Ok I see you're doing a good work, so I withdraw my vote :)--Nick1915 - all you want 14:15, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Oppose besides what Johannes Rohr said, this project seems to have found a new active contributor, strong oppose to lock this project, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:07, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Strongly opposed: low activity doesn't mean that there is no activity and that there are no possibilities for development. Hégésippe | ±Θ± 20:33, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Oppose Certainly, Sarvaturi is active, and it would be appropriate to close the project while an active member is generating significant content. EJF 17:32, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Strong oppose Has at least one active contributor, tons of articles. I think we can call this discussion withdrawn; see nominator's comments. Sr13 20:17, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Oppose There are wiktionaries in worse shape. Besides, why is it Italians who propose this? Tsk,tsk. Jcwf 13:29, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  8. Oppose ¡NO! --Piolinfax (@es.wikt) 19:29, 12 April 2008 (UTC) Piolinfax wonders why "creating a lot of entries without any standard definition, just translation..." is an argument to close a project, especially a minority language project. For a long time many now "safe" projects (hu.wikt for example) was like that. Piolinfax detects a scary lack of perspective in such kind of comments... actually he detects a lot of scary things in Proposals_for_closing_projects--Piolinfax (@es.wikt) 19:42, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Comment edit

  • Good morning Snowolf and Broc, I think that the "bar" in the Corsican wiktionary is here:

http://co.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Communità

Best regards

--Sarvaturi 11:17, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

there's no community on co.wikt, so there're no reason for any public announcement--Nick1915 - all you want 14:03, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I object, there might be readers who watch but don't contribute. I do that on some projects I like and it might look that those are inactive, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:14, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I re-object :). When this proposal was inserted, there were only spambot entries in RC and nobody else... please assume a diachronic POV :D--Nick1915 - all you want 14:27, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How can You see if someone is reading only? --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:28, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You can't, but I've considered co.wiki as a dead wiki 'cause just full of "sketch pages without any definition, etymology" so "useless contents"--Nick1915 - all you want 14:34, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What harm can this announcement do? If there is no community, it won't have any effects at all, would it? Snowolf How can I help? 10:56, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
> I've considered co.wiki as a dead wiki 'cause just full of "sketch pages without any definition, etymology" so "useless contents"
It would be even more dead if you close it. If you close it no Corsican-speaking or any-other-language-speaking human will come across it by chance (I came across Wikipedia that way in 2004) or through other wikiprojects and will have the chance to contribute there. From the little bunch of people who could/would/should contribute there is an even smaller number of people who would/could/should know how to ask for the project to be re-opened. Closing projects just makes things more difficult for "those not there yet". I regard this "closing fever" as another indirect victory for spammers, vandals and trolls; they have the power to make others close projects. Actually it is a power we allow them to have. The same old story. --Piolinfax (@es.wikt) 20:17, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
> What harm can this announcement do? If there is no community, it won't have any effects at all, would it?
It will have effects on the language of the project. The smaller the language the bigger the effect on it. Most of the languages in the world are not so lucky (or pushy) as Mandarin, English, Hindi, Spanish.... Closing up the cabin because it is full of rubbish and graffitti tends to lock out the possible individual or family who would tidy the place up and made a home out of it once they discovered it.--Piolinfax (@es.wikt) 20:17, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
