Grants talk:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/Wikimedia Awareness in Taraba State (ID: 22393196)

Endorsment from SadiqY56 (talk) edit

After a careful study of the project, the dire need for Wikimedia awareness in Taraba becomes imperatively glaring, considering the dearth of active editors and contributors from the area. This project, when implemented will tremendously empower young people from Taraba to be able to share with the world their remarkable culture, traditions, history of important places, personalities, and many more. I must commend him for the effort, and dearly admire how he has put thought and strategy into implementing the project which is convincing seeing the powerful team he has selected many of whom I have worked with personally and know their delivery capacity. Yahuza is a dedicated and passionate individual who will not only popularize Wikimedia and its sister projects in Taraba, but as well ensure the sustainability of the programs and introduce important initiatives to ensure the continuous development of the society. I sincerely recommend this project for the immense impact it will exert and its contribution to Wikimedia global mission.

Endorsement edit

Taraba is the third largest state in Nigeria by Landmass with different institutions, and cultural and language diversities. It is also a state rich with different landscapes. However, there has not been any community nor any Wikimedia programme in the state. I can still recall that after Yahuza showed the zeal to participate in the programme several months ago, we had to transport him to the neighboring states twice where he received sound training on how to effectively contribute to Wikimedia foundation project. This project would create two impacts;

A. Served as the avenue for creating a Wikimedia Community in Taraba

B. Retain @Yahuzaishat and other volunteers recruited in the process.

@Yahuzaishat has successfully facilitated two projects as a wiki volunteer. This has given him the experience to carry out a project and I will also be there to support him with my experience.

The first ever project in Taraba State, one of the 36 states (plus F.CT) in Nigeria. edit

I had the pleasure of meeting the applicant, Yahuzaishat, during the Wikipedia Awareness in Akko event, where he emerged as the best participant, showcasing his dedication and enthusiasm for Wikimedia projects. Furthermore, Yahuzaishat's contributions extended beyond being a participant, as he also took on the role of a facilitator during the Wikimedia Awareness at Pen Resource University. His active involvement and commitment to promoting Wikimedia initiatives make him a valuable asset to this project.

Wikimedia Meta-Wiki plays a pivotal role in facilitating projects like "Wikimedia Awareness in Taraba State." This ambitious proposal, spearheaded by Yahuzaishat, is commendable for its commitment to bridging the knowledge gap on Wikimedia platforms in Taraba State, Nigeria. With a well-structured plan, including in-person workshops, online training, and edit-a-thons, it is poised to create a substantial impact. Engaging diverse youths and students, particularly from underrepresented ethnic and cultural backgrounds, aligns perfectly with the Movement Strategy 2030 recommendations. The proposed metrics, focusing on participants, editors, content contributions, and user satisfaction, provide a clear framework for evaluation. Overall, this project holds great promise in improving the user experience, enhancing content equity, and expanding Wikimedia's reach in Taraba State. It deserves our endorsement and support.Usmanagm (talk) 00:53, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Not Funded edit

Hello @Yahuzaishat thank you for submitting your application for the rapid fund grant. After careful review, we have decided not to fund your application at this time for the following reasons;

  • The Lead applicant on this proposal does not have the required experience in relevant projects - Wikipedia, Commons, and Wikidata.
  • It would be good to consider building a team that is not already involved in other projects and who are based within the same state to ensure effective engagement and ensure more effective funds utilisation.
  • A number of the project team members were also listed on another project which is scheduled to run concurrent to this project.

Best regards, (On behalf of the Middle East and Africa regional funds team) ~~~~ YPam (WMF) (talk) 05:02, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
