Feedback from MEA Regional Funds Review Team edit

Dear Muhammed amine benloulou,

Thank you very much for taking the time to submit an application for this Rapid Fund cycle. We welcome your efforts and your dedication to expanding content with the focus on climate change in the Maghreb region and the Wikimedia movement more broadly. It is great to see your investment in developing content on Wiktionary with the focus on climate change in the tacawit language. Please see our comments and recommendations below and respond to them on this page by Friday, May 10:

  • Collaboration with other user groups who are participating in Wiki for Climate Change. It appears that last year that was a lot of collaboration taking place between user groups across the Maghreb region. May you kindly share how you are planning on collaborating with other user groups in the Maghreb region based on learnings of the previous year, to expand the impact of the campaign and increase the quality and quantity of the contributions?
  • Adjusting the metrics. It appears that you are planning for about 74 participants to join your campaign, as well as 61 editors, with 6 organizers involved. However, your expected outcomes include 8 new Wikipedia articles, 33 Wikimedia Commons entries, 22 Wikidata entries and 60 Wiktionary entries. The metrics seem rather low given the amount of participants that you expect to attend. May you please share your rationale for this, or adjust the metrics so that they realistically reflect the amount of participants and the outcomes of the activities. The metrics added in the Excel sheet of the budget shares different metrics and number of participants than the application. May you refer us to what are the correct metrics for this project? Thanks.
  • Growth and innovation from the previous year. What is the growth that you are expecting to see from the previous year? How has the number of participants and metrics created changed specifically for the Algerian user group activities from the previous year? Have you considered any new or innovative approaches for the campaign activities this year?
  • Adjusting the timeline. As mentioned during our call, you will need to adjust the timeline so that the project begins after May 26 to allow for time to process the grant if it is funded. Kindly adjust the start and end dates of the timeline, as well as in the Excel sheet of the budget.

Once again, thank you for your contributions to the movement and we look forward to receiving your responses. FElgueretly-WMF (talk) 14:19, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for reviewing our proposal. We appreciate your input on our proposal. those are the responses to provide you with as basic and clear an explanation as possible, and these are the answers to the questions.
  • Collaboration with other user groups who are participating in Wiki for Climate Change
Based on our experience in the collaboration of last year's Wiki for Climate Change campaign in the Maghreb region 2023, our strategy for this year prioritizes leveraging this collective experience.
Our strategy focuses on projects in local activities while expanding online activities to include webinars and capacity building sessions open to all Wikimedia contributors across the Maghreb.
Additionally, we plan to broaden participation by opening the Wiktionary contest to contributors from the wider Arabic community. Furthermore, we are dedicated to promoting and sharing the events of other user groups in the Maghreb region with the Of course, the Algerian Wikimedia community is taking advantage of the common culture of the Maghreb through various channels for collaboration among Wikimedians in the region.
  • Adjusting the metrics
The metrics outlined in our project application were designed to prioritize the quality of content generated over sheer quantity, aiming to foster meaningful engagement in the campaign and learning among participants. We focused on effective participation through workshops, contests, and capacity building activities, which may not always translate into high output numbers. Additionally, considering the constraints of timing, particularly the one-month duration for Algerian participants, the projected outcomes may appear conservative. Even though we raised the expectation metrics after revising the table of the projects and activities based on your recommendation in our last meeting.
Please refer to the metrics in the Excel sheet, which has the final metrics, I thought I made the changes in the application after our recommendation at our last meeting.
  • Growth and innovation from the previous year
We expect to raise new contributors who are especially interested in climate change projects and who will help and support the Algerian user group and the Wikimedia community in how to use Wikimedia projects to find solutions for climate challenges in the region using local and international languages.
Last year, the campaign was open to all of the Maghreb region to participate in all the activities, so most of the participants were organizers. After the governance of the group, there were some changes so we are expecting to have more participants from the group and new participants who are going to be members of the group in the future.
We are considering in the campaign for this year developing the successful methods that were used last year and trying to learn from mistakes that were made last year.
  • Adjusting the timeline
After the meeting, we took the recommendation and we already changed the timeline for our activities from 01 - 30 June 2024 in the fluxx and the Excel sheet as well.
Thank you so much for your support and guidance throughout the review process. We look forward to the committee's final decision.
Sincerely, Muhammed amine benloulou (talk) 22:10, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
