Grants talk:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom for Secondary School Teachers in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. (ID: 22114412)

Endorsment from Onyenachi64 (talk) edit

Experience from schools that has enjoyed this reading Wikipedia in the classroom programme shows that the programme is very educative to teachers. It is also an indirect way of introducing Wikipedia to students in secondary schools. Teachers become wikipedians and it widens acceptance of wikipedia in educational institutions. I know that Denis Memorial Gramer School Onitsha is a leading secondary school in Onitsha, Anambra State. It will be a good place to start to introduce the programme in Anambra State. I support this application.

Endorsment from Ogalihillary (talk) edit

Teachers in most secondary schools in Nigeria do not have online resources to improve their knowledge and information. They only rely on information they could gather from textbooks, this strategy will help them understand and have free access to open knowledge which will make their work easier and more effective. Also the proposal will help inform the teachers about wikimedia, how useful it can be to the education system in Nigeria and the importance of contributing their knowledge to wikimedia space for people to use.

Endorsment from Iwuala Lucy (talk) edit

Strong support With the introduction of Reading Wikipedia in Classroom as an educational tool through which the knowledge gap that exists between Wikipedia and Nigerian education system can be filled up, there is indeed, need to spread this tool (RWC) in different part of the country and by so doing, reeducate/reorient the wrong perception held towards Wikipedia in Nigeria; hence the need to carry out this project.

Change of Date edit

Hello, DSaroyan (WMF), Just want to let you know that we will not be able to commence the implementation of the reading Wikipedia in the Classroom on the first of June as planned due to some reasons.

  • . Jane Onuoha my co trainer will be going to Serbia on scholarship for the Education Conference
  • . This term is a promotional term for students so in order not to disrupt school activities and also get the attention of the teachers involved we will be organizing the training during the school mid term break which will be starting on the 13th of June.
