Endorsement for Uncle Bash007 (talk) edit

As one of the pioneers and major contributor of Hausa Wikiquote, I feel there is great need for more contributions to this project. More especially due to few editors who contribute to the project and the project is still yet to be approved as a Wikimedia project (partly due to less number of participantion)

I was informed about this proposal and I believe it will bring about positive impact to Hausa Wikiquote and Hausa community at large - more especially with the idea of engaging aged participants which is a major gap more especially within Hausa Wikimedians (as most of the editors are young/youths). This project will fill this gap by introducing Wikiquote to the aged across Hausa community.

I will make some recommendations on how to achieve better outcomes.

i. the idea of engaging aged participants is a plus achievement, but you may encounter challenges in convincing them to keep editing Wikiquote, therefore there is need to include other age categories (as the case may be) and also include other genders (like women) to get more effective participation. There is also need to plan extensively on how to keep new editors (by adding them to groups and sharing Wikimedia information with them regularly, etc).

ii. to increase motivation among participants - state clearly the prizes and issue them immediately (as possible) after the contest).

iii. As for the learning questions, i think (Googleforms) is suitable for testing participants’ parception about Wikimedia (Wikiquote) Uncle Bash007 (talk) 09:06, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not Funded edit

Hello @Abubakar Yusuf Gusau thank you for applying for the rapid fund grant. We reviewed your application and after a careful consideration, have decided to not fund this application at this time, for the following reasons;

  • Engaging the elderly in technological activities, coupled poses challenges numerous challenges, yet this team hasn't outlined strategies for how those challenges would be mitigated. One such challenge might be for instance and as such relying solely on Meta page announcements may not suffice for effective publicity and engagement on the project. Additionally, challenges such as computer literacy and the relevance of their quotes is something the team should have considered and highlighted along with mitigation, in the overall plan.
  • The budget line items related to travel, accommodation, prizes, and computer hiring expenses are considerably higher than what might be obtainable in the location for this proposed work.
  • While focusing on Wikiquote makes sense generally, the target group's size and suitability for the project are unclear. With 10 editors involved, achieving the intended contributions is not unrealistic.

Given the concerns raised, we recommend that you start with a micro-grant from the Wikimedia Nigeria User group, as they are best placed to provide the support that you require. This would allow the team to demonstrate capability on a smaller scale, refine their skills, and build a track record of experience that could support future applications.
