Feedback from MEA regional funds review team edit

Hello Hadassahlove, Happy New Year and apologies for the delayed review process. Thanks again for submitting this funding request and your work for the movement! We have reviewed your grant proposal and we have a few questions and requests.

  • While the project idea and need are clear, the project plan seems to be incomplete. Please add more information about the content gap this project will address, as well as about details of activities. (questions 1-3)
  • We would also like to understand how you encourage participants to make contributions outside of the events. Have you developed any strategy? (question 9)
  • It's great to hear that you have an active community! Do they edit outside of the events? Do you involve any of them in the organizing team? (question 9 and 5)
  • The travel and accommodation costs for facilitators are significant. We understand that these will allow you to run activities in two new states. However, we request to readjust the project plan / budget, so that either activities are run by local active community members, or if it's not possible, we request that you minimize these costs by reducing the number of traveling facilitators to 2. (detailed budget, questions 18 & 19)
  • We will support a maximum of 300 USD for the prizes budget. While we recognize the importance of prizes, we believe that prizes shouldn't be the primary factor of motivation to contribute to the Wikimedia projects and movement. (detailed budget, questions 18 & 19)

Please make indicated changes on Fluxx Grantee Portal. Log in to the Grantee Portal and you will see your application in the 'Proposals need attention' section. Edit and re-submit your application by January 20, 2023. Let us know if you need more time to make the requested changes.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks for your time, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 14:39, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi DSaroyan (WMF) and happy new year. Thank you for the review and the questions; here are my responses:
  • I have added more information about the details of the activities.
  • To encourage participants to join after the event, we have specifically created a group for all queer participants and we have milestones for the month and also edit focus for each month coupled with top contributors' shoutouts as a way to encourage more to contribute.
  • As per participants' edits: some of them do contribute and working on making more do with these new concentrated plans and per organizing: for now; we haven't involved the participants in the organizing team as we get to visit new territories for each project but have involved partnered organization hopefully by next program we will have more participants involved with organizing.
  • LGBTQ+ topics in Nigeria are quite sensitive, and as such, we don't have many experienced editors willing to get involved. But we hope after a series of training and adequate mentoring, we will have trained participants stepping on to take this. I have reduced the facilitator's travel and accommodation to just 2 instead of 3, as advised.
  • I also are your thought about the prizes in terms of motivation and not putting too much importance on the prizes. I have adjusted the prices not to be more than 300 USD.

Thanks once again. Hadassahlove (talk) 02:39, 14 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
