1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Following the remarkable success of our inaugural quarterly event, our team is highly motivated to continue fostering community engagement and introducing new Wikimedia projects. Our primary focus thus far has been on elevating the Fante Wikipedia Incubator, which has seen an impressive number of articles created or improved by dedicated community members. We are committed to supporting our contributors by providing them with the necessary tools and resources to excel in their contributions.

In addition to our local efforts, we have also actively participated in global initiatives such as Art + Feminism, Wiki World Heritage, and Wiki Loves Africa. By engaging in these initiatives, we have been able to connect with a wider community of Wikimedians, exchange knowledge and ideas, and work collaboratively towards advancing the Wikimedia movement.

Moving forward, we plan to introduce more innovative projects and programs to deepen community engagement and foster an even more inclusive and diverse community. We are dedicated to our mission of creating and sharing knowledge freely and look forward to making even more significant contributions to the Wikimedia movement in the future.

We aim to increase engagement and retention rates among both new and experienced editors in our growing community of motivated Fante Wikimedians. This community spans across Takoradi, Cape Coast, and two university campuses in Winneba. Additionally, we plan to introduce the community to other Wikimedia projects, such as Wikidata and Commons, to showcase the diverse ways in which one can make valuable contributions and participate in Wikimedia movement campaigns.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

This project aims to empower the community members by building their capacity, improving retention rates, and fostering continuous engagement among both new and experienced editors to edit Wikimedia projects. Additionally, we plan to introduce other Wikimedia projects to the community to create awareness that members can contribute to other projects as well.

Our initial quarterly project was a resounding success, with participants displaying a high level of motivation and eagerness to contribute to Wikimedia projects, particularly the local Fante Wikipedia Incubator.

Mentorship and support will also be provided to community members through team leaders who will guide and assist them in contributing efficiently to Wikimedia projects using resources such as templates and guidelines.

As a community, we recognize the importance of partnerships in expanding the scope of our work in supporting the Fante language. Therefore, our primary strategy is to collaborate with academic institutions, GLAM institutions, and organizations interested in supporting the language. We will continue to work with lecturers at the University of Education Language Department, Art+Feminism, Wiki World Heritage, Rising Voices, and other institutions in Ghana to recruit more contributors for the Fante language. Through these partnerships, we aim to create a more vibrant and sustainable Fante language community on Wikimedia projects.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

As part of our ongoing efforts to support and engage our community members, we are planning a series of in-person and online workshops focused on introducing them to various Wikimedia projects and providing them with training and support.

The in-person workshops will be held across 4 events, spread across four groups located in three different cities: Takoradi, Cape Coast, and two University Campuses in Winneba. During these events, we will introduce new Wikimedia projects and provide hands-on training to participants to help them develop the skills needed to contribute effectively.

In addition to the in-person workshops, we will also host four online events. These events will serve as opportunities for volunteers to discuss ongoing projects, learn about future developments, and receive support from our team. We will also hold office hours during these events to answer questions and provide guidance to participants and one photowalk will be organised

Overall, these workshops and training programs are an important part of our commitment to supporting and engaging our community members. By providing them with the training and support they need to become effective contributors to Wikimedia projects, we believe we can foster a more vibrant and inclusive community of Wikimedians dedicated to creating and sharing knowledge freely.

4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

Our program aims to engage a diverse range of participants, including existing members of the Fante Wikimedia Community, Fante natives, and anyone who can contribute to the project in Fante. We recognize the importance of maintaining communication with our participants and plan to utilize various platforms such as Whatsapp, Telegram, and social media to achieve this.

To ensure continued participation and retention after the project implementation, we have developed a series of strategies. Firstly, we will collect usernames and contact information through feedback forms to keep track of our participants. Secondly, we will offer optional mailing lists and social media groups for those interested in staying updated on future events.

We also plan to identify the most active, knowledgeable, and motivated contributors and invite them to future events, providing them with opportunities to take on leadership roles within the community. Finally, we will add new participants to the existing WhatsApp/Telegram group to encourage continued discussions and collaborations. By implementing these strategies, we hope to foster a vibrant and engaged community of contributors committed to the Fante Wikipedia project.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

To ensure a positive and welcoming environment for all participants, we will adhere to the Wikimedia-friendly space policy. This includes assuming good faith towards others regarding their contributions and opinions. We welcome any volunteer who wishes to participate in the grant, and we will provide them with all the necessary support to ensure they are well taken care of throughout their involvement. Our doors are always open to all who want to contribute to the project.
