1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

Photo hunts and community building activities and partnerships

The Zimbabwean community at its infancy level did well by coming together and having fun time. Community engagements increased awareness on Wiki and appreciation and embracing Wiki Projects. This was possible as we divided into groups and went photo hunting. The casual approach made it possible for new editors to engage with old editors and experience the community love. The photography experience lured a few professional photographers and they are ready for 2025 experience. Partnerships with artists in Bulawayo Art Gallery was a highlight as we discovered the creative individuals.

We attended webinars organized by the Wiki in Africa and other wiki projects like the Wiki Loves Libraries in Nigeria and we had a challenging talk with Bokola James

Part 2: Learning edit

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: Leadership skills Editing skills Cultural exposure Knowledge creation for easy access

Leadership skills- The old editors were given a chance to be in the forefront and engage with participants, edit landing pages and updating the social pages. This was a learning curve as the leaders were also not sure of many things hence needed help often to learn how to edit how to help one understand Wiki and a lot of other things. in the future, a leadership workshop without new participants will do so as to learn to go and teach. however, l am glad new upcoming leaders or organizers have been identified to start projects on their own.

We had new editors from different cultures in Zimbabwe. there was language barrier here and there and there was learning of new things and representation of the underrepresented parts of our country. In the future we hope to engage all cultures in Zimbabwe so that we are exposed to the culture that is similar in a way but different.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

positive - we had new enthusiastic editors compared to the old editors. And the winners were from the new editors

negative - the new training organisers had fewer edits to be given rights to create an event

- the response rate in terms of editing besides uploading was low, this was evidenced by the low turn up of people when we wre doing edit-a-thons versus when we did photo hunts.
  • photo hunts made us meet people that wanted money, which was no surprise at all as Zimbabweans have not heard of Wikipedia in many places.

We learnt that we need to understand as individual editors and organizers what Wikimedia Foundation is and how it operates so as to be good ambassadors of the foundation in our country.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

The organisers who were in the fore front met to discuss the learnings from this project and plan to meet up again and have a yearly plan for the community to meet up often at least once a month for community growth.
