Grants:IdeaLab/Wiki translation of Wikimedia content.
Project idea edit
What is the problem you're trying to solve? edit
Original language primary sources are often copyright free, and eligible for inclusion on Wikimedia, while translations are not. We should use the power of the Wikimedia community to provide those translations, and maintain translations that will naturally adapt over time.
What is your solution? edit
Wikimedia should be structured so that users are invited to translate original language documents into the language they used to originally enter the site. It should be structured in a line-by-line manner so that the user is directed to translate one sentence at a time. This will make the process more inviting, and less daunting. It would be ideal if the translation activity could be stored and analysed for automated translation. Then all documents could be automatically translated at first and then improved by users.

Participants edit
- Developer Can translate English into Hindi, Marathi and vice a versa. Dr Sujata Dhopte (talk) 14:57, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
Endorsements edit
- It would be great if you could access manuscripts and inscriptions not only in high-quality HD image format but also in the format of faithful[ly] transcribed, translatable text! Goldenbrook (talk) 17:32, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
- In the upper right under "Beta" you can activate "Content Translation". I think it would be a good idea to forward the idea to them. For automated translation I think that it would be good to pre-translate articles / documents via Google Translator so that just relatively few adjustments have to be made to properly translate the full article / document.
