GLAMcamp DC

GLAMcamp DC was a meeting/workshop for Wikimedians active in outreach to cultural institutions in the United States. (More background here; this event was modeled on the 2011 GLAMcamp NYC and GLAMcamp Amsterdam.) In contrast to an open community conference like Wikimania, this was a workshop for a small group (about 25 people) of community-focused and technology-focused Wikimedians to continue and solidify the key elements of the glamwiki.org project, with special focus on the United States. A few representatives from cultural institutions who have worked with Wikimedia joined us during the event.

The following tasks have been adapted from previous GLAMcamps and have been updated to reflect the current needs of the US GLAM-Wiki community. How do I get to the hostel and venue?

Visiting Washington, DC
The Washington Monument and surrounding downtown Washington. Washington, DC is the center of the United States; politically and culturally. Its landscape is rather concrete, but full of historical and cultural significance - you'll be in the heart of where it all happens in the US. The National Archives and Records Administration serves as our business home for the weekend, and our housing location at the HI Washington DC is in the heart of Chinatown. Both serve as central location to the cultural landscape of DC. We welcome you to Washington, and look forward to serving you with your first small taste of what Wikimania 2012 will serve! The weather in February February in DC is not as cold as some parts of the country, but requires a warm jacket, a scarf and gloves at the least. It could snow, you never know! ;) Average high: 47°F (7°C) Average low: 31°F (-0.5°C) Other tips for visiting DC DC is like any other major city in regards to staying safe - keep your eyes peeled and stay aware of your surroundings - regardless, DC is fairly safe, especially the areas where the hostel and Archives are in.
