Association of Stroopwafel Addicts/The real history of Wikimedia's crave for stroopwafels

I guess it's time I shed a little light on how stroopwafels came to be the official treat of the Wikimedia World. This might sound like original research, but I thought I'd set the record straight.

It all started in 1990. I was visiting a friend in the Netherlands, and we had not seen each other for quite a time, so caught up around a bottle of tequila. Which we knocked down (there were three of us) in less time than it takes to say the word tequila. The day after that memorable evening, we went and visited the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum in Arnhem. The thought of food was a bit heavy on my stomach, until my Dutch friend pulled out stroopwafels. I couldn't stop eating them. I bought a stock to go back to Paris and every time after that when I had the opportunity of going back to the Netherlands, bought stroopwafels (or had them imported by Dutch visitors).

In September 2005, Wikimedia Nederland held its first meeting in Utrecht, at which I was present. We had a great time, in spite of the poor weather. And I kept on telling to everyone: "I need to buy Stroopwafels". Which I eventually did. That's where the trend caught, as the Dutch realized I was completely sold on stroopwafels. At the next international Wikimedia meeting I attended, someone (Lodewijk maybe? Marjon? Oscar?) brought me stroopwafels, which I (grudgingly) shared with other Wikimedians. Little did I know that this would turn into a world wide addiction... The rest is history.

Well, independently of this I quickly realized that if I (as a Dutchman) was to have my way in board meetings of the Wikimedia Foundation, I would have to use all the power of my home city of Gouda, home of some of the best stroopwafels (which notafish will not deny). So at my first board meeting I brought them and proceeded to do so on every meeting afterwards. Whenever things in the meeting get "sticky" I try to make them stickier by bringing out a pack or two. A recent calculation on my part indicated that my expenditures on stroopwafels for Wikimedia comes close to 100 euros a year, which is about 1/20 of the amount needed to donate to a tax deductible charity in the Netherlands... So I guess I just have to bring MANY more to next Wikimania :) --Jan-Bart —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 192.87.93.92 (talk) 13:43, 10 August 2011
Héhé. I paved the way to a new bribing system ;) notafish }<';> 14:04, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding your title in the main page, "Self proclaimed honorary life permanently high member", isn't it a bit too long and just weird XD? I'm not against it nor do I think it is inappropriate, but wouldn't something like chairperson or president suffice? I'm just asking because it might be simpler. - Zach Hontiveros Pagkalinawan (talk) 02:35, 18 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
