  139. One day long ago in the 1980's I attended the wedding of a co-worker (Seattle) who was from Oak Harbor WA marrying a young man who came to the US from The Netherlands with his parents when he was a young boy. They lived somewhere in Lynden WA. That area Skagit seems to have a lot of Dutch - there are wonderful fields of Tulips grown every year and a festival. Anyway back to the important thing... stroopwafels... many of her husband's family still lived in The Netherlands and brought many, many stroopwafels for the reception and I've been trying to find them ever since (I have found packaged ones but they just aren't the same). My younger sister attended the wedding with me & before we left that reception, we had to take a few more. I bet if she knew about this page she might just have to post.

  151. Kathleen P., Phoenix, AZ -- There is no such thing as just eating one stroopwafel, not even just one bag. They are soooooooooooo good and soooooooo addicting! I had them first in Beverwijk, Holland from a grocery store. They didn't look like much, but my Dutch friend I was staying with said they were really good. The minute I had the first one, I couldn't stop! I bought 2 bags to bring back home. The first was gone on the plane, and the second (bag of mini stroopwafels) was gone the day after I got home. I have since bought some in Phoenix at World Market, imported from a different town in Holland. Good, but not as good as the ones in Beverwijk! Looking for more brands in Phoenix, AZ.

  202. Many, many years ago, living in Berlin (West Berlin, and the Wall was to remain in power for some time yet, that's how long ago it was--yes, I'm old), I went for a solo visit to Amsterdam for a few days, to enjoy some of the many diversions and charms to be found there. Sitting alone in a coffee shop, looking up from a copy of Rolling Stone, I saw a very cute young lady, who began talking with me. We had a great conversation (thank goodness for the excellent English of most Dutch folk), but then she had to get going. First though, she asked where I was going, which was as yet undecided, so she said I must go to the big street market (don't remember its name), where I must be sure to eat a fresh, hot stroopwafel, and she would give me a ride there, as it was on her way. So I got behind her, on her bicycle, and hung on--really hung on, for a scary-exciting ride through the streets and traffic of the city, at what seemed crazy speed, especially around the corners (I wonder if I go back nowadays if I could find someone to give me another ride like that--it was great!). She dropped me off at the wonderful market, where I quickly found the item she'd commanded me to eat. It really didn't look all that impressive...but you fellow addicts know the rest of the story. I'll never really recover. The stashes to be found from the limited sources in N. Texas can't really compare, but I make do, going cold-turkey intermittently, before tumbling back off the wagon. But I just saw there's a video on YT, on how to make your own, so we'll see....--Toscaskiss32 (talk) 07:27, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Grandma made them every Christmas as part of our gift so we have vowed to carry on the tradition with our own children and grandchildren. Have loved eating them for most of my 53 years on this earth.
